Objective: To investigate proportions and outcomes of isocyanate and other causes of occupational asthma (OA) claims in Ontario, Canada, 2003 to 2007. Mortality and Cancer Incidence in Aluminum Smelter Workers
A 5-Year Update Objective: To determine the mortality and cancer incidence of aluminum smelter workers. Method: The experience of 17,089 workers between 1950 and 2004 was studied. Results: There were 25 deaths/47 female incident cancers and 6350 deaths/3984 male incident cancers. Mortality and cancer incidence in a pooled cohort of US firefighters from San Francisco, Chicago and Philadelphia (1950–2009)
From previous studies, there is limited epidemiological evidence of increased risk of cancer from firefighting. We examined cancer in 30 000 career firefighters by pooling information from urban fire departments in three large US cities. The large sample size and long follow-up period improved risk estimates compared with previous studies. We report that firefighting may be associated with increased risk of solid cancers. Projection of mesothelioma mortality in Great Britain
There has been an increase in mesothelioma mortality in Great Britain, with 1705 deaths recorded in 2006. In 2005, a statistical model was developed based on a simple birth-cohort model, which assumes that the risk of mesothelioma depends on age and years of exposure and that an individual's asbestos exposure depends on the year of exposure.
