An Update on the State of Anti-Fog Eye and Face Protection, Technologies and Best Practices
Fog limits the effectiveness of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for eye and face protection. According to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), it is one of the three most significant barriers to their use, ahead of lack of comfort and fit and scratching. If lenses are fogged, people won’t wear them. If workers can’t see, they could have accidents. Fog forms on a surface when water vapor in air condenses in fine droplets. A good anti-fog (AF) coating should prevent the formation of such droplets, but not all AF coatings are the same. Typical AF products perform well...

Face shields for infection control: A review
Face shields are personal protective equipment devices that are used by many workers (e.g., medical, dental, veterinary) for protection of the facial area and associated mucous membranes (eyes, nose, mouth) from splashes, sprays, and spatter of body fluids. Face shields are generally not used alone, but in conjunction with other protective equipment and are therefore classified as adjunctive personal protective equipment. Although there are millions of potential users of face shields, guidelines for their use vary between governmental agencies and professional societies and little research is available...

A Game Plan for These Tough Times
Head/face protection should be near the top of your list because it affects almost every other safety program you have on site. Brace yourself and face the situation squarely: Few companies have a fully functional head and face protection program that will pass inspection by trained and qualified inspectors. Most facilities have bits and pieces of a program, but over the years, the various parts of program continuity have dropped into the dust as other, always urgent program needs take time and budget.
