Control of hazardous energy - Lockout and other methods

Unintended or deliberate release of hazardous energy carries the very real risk of serious injuries or even fatality. Businesses that require their employees work on or near hazardous energy need to implement safety best practices, and must be able to demonstrate due diligence towards prevention of electrical injuries. While there are several effective methods for controlling hazardous energy associated with potentially harmful machines, equipment, and processes, lockout is recognized as the primary method. CSA Z460 Control of Hazardous Energy – Lockout and other Methods works along with Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety, Z463 Maintenance of Electrical Systems, and the 2012 Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, to build an effective workplace electrical safety plan.
Z460 is based on in part on ANSI/ASSE Z244.1-2003 Control of Hazardous Energy - Lockout/Tagout and Alternative Methods as well as ISO 12100:2010, Safety machinery - General principles for design - Risk assessment and risk reduction.
